Privacy policy

Marsad maps research fields from published literature. Research topics can describe unpublished ideas, so the service is built to keep them private. This page explains what we keep, why, who else sees it, and your choices.
Who runs this site
This site is run by Marsad. Questions about your data: the administrator of this site (via the address you signed up with).
What we keep
Your account: e-mail address, name (optional), language, a hashed password (we never store the password itself) or the identifier of your Google account if you sign in with Google, and whether you confirmed your e-mail address.
Your fields: the topics you enter, the scope you edit, the literature found for them, the analyses, AI explanations generated for them, the questions you ask and your study progress.
Your own papers ("Where am I"), if you add them, and your ORCID iD if you connect it.
Technical logs: the address of each request, its result and duration, kept for operations and security. They do not contain your topics, search queries or the text you type.
Who can see it
Fields are private: only you can open them. If you turn on sharing for a field, anyone with its link can read it (not change it) until you turn sharing off.
If you invite people to a field by e-mail, they can read it, keep their own reading list and read and write the notes in it. Papers sent to one person are seen only by the sender and that person. You can remove someone at any time.
Your own papers are visible only to you and are never added to anyone's field.
Administrators of this site can see the list of accounts (e-mail, name, sign-up date, number of fields and today's usage) to run the service. They do not browse your fields.
Services we send data to
Scholarly databases (OpenAlex, Semantic Scholar, Crossref, arXiv, Europe PMC): search queries derived from your topic, to find the literature. Not your identity.
The AI model provider configured on this site: your topic, paper abstracts and analysis results, to write explanations, screen relevance and answer questions. Only for the request; see that provider's data-use terms.
Sources of activity beyond academia (funding, patents, policy, news, code, talks): the field's key terms only.
E-mail delivery provider: your address and the message, when we send you a confirmation or password-reset e-mail.
Error monitoring (when enabled): technical details of errors so we can fix them, with your account's internal number but without your topics, texts or e-mail address.
Google, if you choose "Continue with Google": the sign-in itself. ORCID: only your public record is read.
We do not sell data, show ads, use trackers or use your fields to train AI models.
Cookies
One sign-in cookie (needed to keep you signed in), a cookie remembering that this browser was signed in, and cookies for your language and theme. No advertising or analytics cookies.
How long we keep it
As long as your account exists. Deleting a field deletes everything in it. Deleting your account deletes your fields, your papers, your questions and your progress. Technical logs are kept only as long as needed for operations.
Your choices and rights
From your account page you can download your data, change your details and password, sign out on all devices, and delete your account.
Depending on where you live, you may have further rights (for example access, correction, objection or complaint to a data-protection authority). Contact the administrator of this site (via the address you signed up with).
Security
Passwords are hashed with bcrypt, sessions use secure, http-only cookies that can be ended at any time, connections are encrypted (HTTPS), and sign-in attempts are rate-limited.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will say so on the site before the change applies.
